One person hurt in Wisconsin after van drives into river

WATERTOWN, Wis. (WFRV) – Authorities in southern Wisconsin say one person was hurt after a van drove into a river Monday afternoon.

According to a release from the Watertown Police Department, officers responded at 4:20 p.m. to a location on the Rock River near the Senior Center at 514 South 1st Street for reports of a van going into the water.

Police say the driver of a taxi van was assisting a passenger into the ban when it started rolling towards the Rock River.

The driver is said to have attempted to stop the vehicle but was unsuccessful as the van rolled over the passenger’s leg before entering the river. Watertown EMS was called to the scene and took the passenger with an injured leg to the Watertown Regional Medical Center.

Officials say the Department of Natural Resources was notified of the incident and the Watertown Emergency Starting and Towing assisted with removing the van from the river.

At this time, no other information is available and an investigation into the incident is ongoing.
