One more quiet day of weather before another storm system moves into the Wiregrass

DOTHAN, Ala. (WDHN) —The weather on Wednesday around the Wiregrass has been beautiful, with temperatures in the middle and upper 80s and not much humidity, thanks to a passing cold front.

With lower dew points and mainly clear skies Wednesday night, temperatures should fall into the middle 60s without a problem. Tonight would be an excellent opportunity to open your windows and let the refreshing air in.

Thursday will be another great day for us, with only a few clouds and temperatures rising to near 90 in the afternoon. While that may sound a little warm, our dew points will once again stay in the 50s and 60s, keeping the mugginess away from us.

Our attention then shifts to an area of low pressure and a cold front developing to our west. Between Friday and Saturday, we expect multiple rounds of showers and thunderstorms. A few of the storms we see during this time period could be strong, but for now, we are not anticipating widespread severe weather.

The timing of the first round of rain will be focused on Friday afternoon and evening as a weakening line of thunderstorms approaches the Wiregrass. Additional clusters of storms will continue throughout the day Saturday before rain chances eventually end Sunday morning.

We’ll need to watch for pockets of isolated flooding with this system, as a widespread 1-3″ of rain is expected to fall in 48 hours over a somewhat saturated soil. Remember, turn around, don’t drown.
