One injured in South Memphis shooting

MEMPHIS, Tenn. — One person was injured during a shooting in South Memphis Thursday morning, Memphis Police say.

Reports state that officers responded to a shooting a little around 4 a.m. in the 1500 block of Rayburn Street.

One man was shot and taken to Regional One in critical condition.

A man living in the neighborhood said he was startled by the gunfire while getting ready for work. “I heard something like six shots, then four, then two more,” said Jeffrey McCollins.

McCollins says this makes him question the Memphis Police Department. “The crime here is just spiraling out of control. What are you doing [C.J. Davis]? Do you need more people? How can this be? What is going on?”

According to the Memphis Data Hub, there have been 6 incidents in this area so far this year.
