Deputies responded to the business at 205 Douglas Ave. at approximately 6:48 a.m. to reports of a shooting. Officials said a 51-year-old woman was shot and taken to the hospital for non-life-threatening injuries to her hand. Martinez and the victim are acquainted.

Authorities from the Ottawa County Sheriff's Office searched for Martinez for much of the morning before coming to Falcon Woods Apartments near 120th Avenue and Felch Street around noon. Nearby residents were evacuated and unable to reenter their homes until police gave the all clear.

While police attempted to make contact with Martinez using a critical response team and crisis negotiators, family members spoke to on-scene media outlets — one encouraging his brother to turn himself in. Martinez was arrested around 7:45 p.m.

According to the Michigan Department of Corrections Offender Tracking Information System, Martinez remains on probation from charges related to an incident on Dec. 24, 2020, including assault with a dangerous weapon and resisting arrest. Martinez was sentenced to three years probation in the case, beginning June 2021.

If Martinez did use a firearm Monday morning, it would be a violation of his probation.
