One dead after overnight shooting, following car crash in Kansas City

KANSAS CITY, Mo. — One man is dead after being shot following a car crash on Kansas City’s eastside.

Just after midnight Monday morning, Kansas City police officers were sent to the area of 23rd Street and Topping for a crash.

While officers were on their way, the call was upgraded to a shooting, with a person shot inside the car.

When officers arrived, they located a man who was a shooting victim. He was unresponsive inside a car. He was identified as 29-year-old Nelson Medina.

EMS took Medina to the hospital for life-threatening injuries. He later died at the hospital around 5 a.m. Monday.

Police believe the shooting took place nearby in the area of Blue Valley Park. There is no information about a suspect at this time.

KCPD’s Homicide Unit will take over the investigation, which is ongoing.
