Olivia Newton-John reveals her breast cancer has returned

Olivia Newton-John has "reluctantly" postponed her US and Canadian tour dates after learning her breast cancer returned. The sad news was announced via a statement on the singer's Facebook on Tuesday, May 30. "The back pain that initially caused her to postpone the first half of her concert tour, has turned out to be breast cancer that has metastasized to the sacrum," the statement read. "In addition to natural wellness therapies, Olivia will complete a short course of photon radiation therapy and is confident she will be back later in the year, better than ever, to celebrate her shows."

Also included in the post was a personal statement from Olivia that said: "I decided on my direction of therapies after consultation with my doctors and natural therapists and the medical team at my Olivia Newton-John Cancer Wellness and Research Centre in Melbourne, Australia." The mom-of-one was forced to postpone her tour at the beginning of the month, with a previous statement on Twitter explaining that it was due to a "bad issue with Olivia’s sciatica."

The Australian actress was first diagnosed with breast cancer in 1992 – on the same weekend that her father passed away – and was given the all-clear after undergoing chemotherapy and a mastectomy. Back in January, she spoke out about her battle, telling the Radio Times: "I am grateful for the experience because without it I would not have done many of the things I have done in my life. It's taught me compassion for those going through difficult times."

Olivia, who is mother to 30-year-old daughter Chloe Lattanzi, has devoted much of her time to supporting breast cancer charities and set up the Olivia Newton-John Cancer and Wellness Centre in her hometown of Melbourne, Australia. Prior to her diagnosis, the Grease star had been touring her latest album, LIV ON, which features a collection of songs about the trauma she has faced in her life, including her first round of cancer and her sister’s death from brain cancer in 2013.
