Old Forge woman charged with hitting man with her car while intoxicated

TAYLOR — An Old Forge woman who hit a man with her car near the Sheetz convenience store had been drinking, police said.

Marie Calogero, 72, of 217 Vine St., faces a felony charge of aggravated assault by vehicle.

According to the criminal complaint:

At about 8 p.m. on Wednesday, police were called to the intersection of North Main and Davis streets for a man on the ground bleeding after being hit by a car.

When police spoke with Fuquan Henderson, he said he was crossing the street when a car hit him and ran over his leg. He said he was coming from Davis Street and on his way to Sheetz when he was hit.

As Henderson spoke with police, he continued to bleed from his head and became lightheaded.

Henderson passed out as emergency responders were tending to him. They took him to Geisinger Community Medical Center in Scranton.

When police spoke with Calogero, she said she was traveling south on North Main Street when she hit something, but she didn’t know what.

She pulled into the Sheetz parking lot and waited there.

Police noted Calogero’s eyes were bloodshot and she smelled like alcohol, charges state.

When officers asked her if she had anything to drink, she allegedly said she had “one drink.”

When asked what kind of drink it was, Calogero said, “green,” police said.

She was unable to satisfactorily complete a field sobriety test, charges state. A breath test indicated Calogero had a blood-alcohol concentration of .154%, above the legal limit of .08%.

She is also charged with general impairment and driving an unregistered vehicle.

Calogero remains at Lackawanna County Prison in lieu of $10,000 bail.

A preliminary hearing is scheduled for 11 a.m. on Thursday before District Judge Christopher J. Szewczyk.
