Old Bishop McDevitt school up for sale or lease

DAUPHIN COUNTY, Pa. (WHTM)– A former high school in Dauphin County has been put up for sale or lease, bringing a planned development project for the property to a halt.

The old Bishop McDevitt property, located along Market St. in Harrisburg, was put up for sale, or for lease or for co-development, according to a listing on Facebook.

The property is a little over eight acres, and the building is 115,000 square feet, and the site has been rezoned.

“The Bridge,” a real estate development business partly founded by former NFL player Gary Gilliam, is the former tenant that had plans to transform the old school property into a community, but now they no longer lease the property, according to the listing. The Bridge planned to build an “eco-village,” which had plans for solar panels, water collection, and urban agriculture, with a mix of office, commercial, entertainment and learning spaces.

“We understand a development of this many residential units requires capital ready to deploy and have opened the site up to other development teams,” the listing reads. “We wish Garry and the Bridge Non profit success as they continue building food gardens and community camps. We encourage any development team to reach out to the Bridge with ways to support and co develop with them.”
