Okaloosa County School District to host education summer camps; registration now open

OKALOOSA COUNTY, Fla. (WKRG) — The Okaloosa County School District is preparing to host education summer camps in June, and those interested in attending can now register.

According to a release, the school district will host several Career and Technical Education Summer Camps for rising 5th and 8th graders.

The camps, aimed at inspiring “young students to learn more about CTE career fields,” are operated by Okaloosa County teachers and will take place at Choctawhatchee High School, Crestview High School, Fort Walton High School, Davidson Middle School and Shoal River Middle School.

Campers at the summer camps will be able to choose from options of what to learn ranging from hands-on skills in building trades, welding, and bio-medical to learning web and app design and coding in computer camps.

The following camps are available this summer, according to the Okaloosa County School website:

Camp “Code Craft”

  • Choctawhatchee High School

  • Instructor: Calderone Jennifer

  • June 10-13

  • Description: “Master the art of HTML, CSS and Javascript while you design and build your very own personal website from scratch!”

Camp “Glam Camp”

  • Crestview High School

  • Instructor: Welch JoAnna

  • June 3-6

  • Description: “Learn various hair styles including curling techniques, and updos, manicuring, pedicuring, skin care and makeup!”

Camp “Webb/App Design”

  • Crestview High School

  • Instructor: Hernandez David

  • June 10-13

  • Description: “Learn Web/App design along with some Cyber Security and how to secure a website and application.”

Camp “CreACTIVE: Learning Your Style”

  • Crestview High School

  • Description: “Learn the basic principles of design. Create and design your very own character and T-Shirt graphic!”

Camp “MetalHead”

  • Description: “Campers will experience the welding and cutting craft while engaging  in a hands-on shop experience”

Camp “Scratch for CS First”

  • Davidson Middle School

  • Description: “With Scratch for CS First, students use a block-based programming language to create their own interactive stories, games, and animations!”

Camp “Skills to Build”

  • Davidson High School

  • Description: “Learn the safe and proper use of professional grade construction tools, read blueprints, plan projects, and build a wooden toolbox and bird house!”

Camp “BioMedical Marvels”

  • Fort Walton Beach High School

  • June 17-20

  • Description: “Explore forensic science and investigation, biometrics, body systems, and microbiology. Learn how to use a Microscope, fingerprint analysis, blood typing and speicmen dissection and more!”

Camp “On the Trails with HTML”

  • Shoal River Middle School

  • Instructor: Oetman, Erika

  • June 10-13

  • Description: “Learning basic HTML, CSS, Coding games and Coding  Craft!”

The camps are from 8 a.m. to noon Monday through Thursday, and all materials, supplies, and snacks will be provided, according to the release.
