Officials rescue 2 people from burning building in central Bakersfield

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KGET) — Firefighters raced to a structure fire early Wednesday morning and found two people with minor injuries.

On April 17, Bakersfield police officers rescued two people from a building on fire at 1111 California Ave., according to the Bakersfield Fire Department. Around 3:18 a.m., officers located two people inside a burning building after tearing down a boarded-up entrance. One person had an arm laceration and the other suffered from smoke inhalation, according to BFD.

Officers applied a tourniquet to the laceration and tended to the victims until firefighters arrived. Firefighters deployed two lines and knocked down the fire within 20 minutes.

Investigation revealed no other subjects inside the building and officials say the cause of this fire is unknown at this time.

The Kern County Fire Department also assisted with this incident. No firefighters were injured during this fire.

Fire crews were busy Wednesday morning, tending to four fires after midnight mostly in central Bakersfield, according to officials.
