Officials gear up for election with early voting

LANSING, Mich. (WLNS) — Officials in Lansing are gearing up for the city’s special election on Tuesday–and reminding people there are different ways of casting your vote.

As of Friday, 9,500 absentee ballots had yet to be returned.

On Saturday and Sunday, at Lansing’s early in-person voting site, dozens of people came to submit their choices.

In-person, early voting gives voters a chance to cast a ballot in an experience similar to voting on Election Day.

Crystal Johnson is one of the election workers at the site. She said opportunities like this are crucial in making sure everyone’s voices are heard in elections across the state.

Johnson added that around 22 people showed up on Saturday, the first day of the event.

“That’s still 22 people that were able to vote early and get it out of the way, and it was around their schedule and around their time frame,” said Johnson. “And the more we do it, the more we expect more people to show up.”
