Odem nursing home, previously known as Auglaize Acres, to close

Mar. 13—WAPAKONETA — The Odem at Auglaize nursing home in Wapakoneta is closing its doors. The closure was announced on Feb. 28. The nursing home was previously known as Auglaize Acres.

"We want to thank the community for all of the support it has given us over the years," Odem Business Office Manager Cindy Brummette said.

Brummette also said Auglaize Acres was officially sold in December of 2018. A new company purchased the facility for a short period of time. Odem bought the company in October of 2021.

According to the Odem website, the history of the building dates back to 1857. Over 200 acres were purchased in the county by the Auglaize County Commissioners.

A few decades later, a nursing home was built on the land. The city of Wapakoneta released a statement on their Facebook page Thursday afternoon. The city stated in the release it recognizes the "significant" impact the closing will have on the community. The city also stated it is unsure of the future of the nursing home.

Brummette also said the facility is unsure of its official closing date.
