Oak Hills High School student arrested after bringing loaded gun to campus

Police arrested a student who they say brought a loaded handgun to the campus of Oak Hills High School on Tuesday morning, authorities said.

The incident began late in the morning, when a student reported that another student possibly had a gun to the campus at 7625 Cataba Road, according to the Hesperia Unified School District.

"(Oak Hills High School) immediately worked with the Hesperia School Police and the district office to put the school on lockdown and apprehend the student," district representatives said in a written statement. "Law enforcement and administration quickly located and arrested the student and recovered a loaded firearm on campus."

The school was briefly placed on lockdown due to the incident, but lifted once the campus was deemed safe by law enforcement, district officials said.

No injuries were reported.

"The Hesperia Unified School District would like to thank the school police and (Oak Hills High School) administration for their quick action, adhering to training protocols and working extremely fast to maintain the safety of students and staff," the statement added.

No further details regarding the arrest were available Tuesday afternoon.

District officials said they increased law enforcement presence around the campus and planned to offer counseling services in response to the incident.
