A potential strike at Nova Scotia Community College has been averted after the two sides reached a tentative agreement Sunday, according to a news release.

Faculty and support staff planned to strike on Monday if NSCC and the Atlantic Academic Union couldn't come to terms.

According to a release from NSCC, the union will recommend that members accept the tentative agreement.

The union will schedule a ratification vote this week, the release says. Details of the agreement will not be released until ratification.

NSCC spokesperson Kathleen Cameron declined to comment on the agreement pending ratification and said the release was agreed upon by both parties.

CBC is awaiting a response from the union.

The college will be open as usual on Monday for courses and student services, the release says.
