North Carolina biscuit restaurant returns to Texas, will open north Fort Worth location

Rise Southern Biscuits is coming back to Texas, and this time, the North Carolina company knows where to open.

Instead of wasting time in Collin County suburbs, Rise is coming to north Fort Worth in the Victory Shops at Basswood, 7064 Blue Mound Road.

That’s a better location than Allen or Prosper for a restaurant with a choice of 25 different biscuit sandwiches plus new menu items: chicken fingers or plant-based chicken fingers.

The folks on Basswood Boulevard near Saginaw High School will like North Carolina biscuits and chicken. Rise locations bake up to 1,000 biscuits daily to meet demand originally driven by college crowds in Rise’s home town of Durham, North Carolina.

Last trip to Durham, we made a special trip to Rise. The biscuits were near-perfect.

But since then, the company has changed dramatically. Rise dumped its original “biscuits and donuts” name and concept, and also dumped Texas after a location in Allen opened and closed quickly in 2017.

Founder Tom Ferguson, a Grand Prairie product who went from the U.S. Army to his start at a Durham food truck, passed away in 2022.

The company hasn’t slowed down, growing to 24 locations under the new name of Rise Southern Biscuits & Righteous Chicken.

The most popular menu items are a Righteous Chicken biscuit with fried chicken brined in buttermilk, pickles and sauce; a Southern chicken biscuit with pimiento cheese and bacon; and the ubiquitous Nashville hot chicken biscuit.

All the sandwiches are also now offered on a bun, so Rise isn’t just a breakfast place.

A “Chix & Grits” platter combines chicken fingers, cheese grits and bacon. The menu also offers biscuits with sausage or plant-based chicken or sausage.

The new location was announced in January, but a construction permit was just filed.

It’s in the same shopping center with Swig, a smash hit drink shop, and Salad and Go, along with a Jersey Mike’s Subs.

Another location is nearly finished in Dallas at 2414 Victory Park Lane.

The restaurants are not related to Rise Souffle locations in Fort Worth and Dallas.
