Norfolk Fire-Rescue announces new chief

NORFOLK, Va. (WAVY) — Norfolk Fire-Rescue (NFR) has a new Fire-Rescue Chief.

Interim Chief Sidney Carroll accepted the role as Fire Chief, and is set to begin May 4. Norfolk City Manager Pat Roberts announced the news on Friday.

Currently, Carroll lives in Norfolk with his wife, Dr. Sally Carroll and a dog named BoBo.

Carroll’s work with NFR began over forty years ago, and he joined the department in January 1982.

Since then, the Norfolk native has risen up over his tenure and served as a supervisor in all three operational battalions in the city.

Carroll has completed several national fire academy and national incident management system courses, served on the core values development committee for NFR and served as the chairperson for the department’s diversity committee.

Carroll has also received recognition and numerous awards in his career. Carroll was given a medal of honor, medal of valor, firefighter of the year award and citations for his extraordinary service to the community.
