NOPD arrests three, searches for one in Canal Street shooting investigation

NEW ORLEANS (WGNO) — Officers with the New Orleans Police Department have arrested three people and are searching for another in connection with a shooting that left a man wounded near the French Quarter.

On March 18, NOPD officers responded to a shooting at the intersection of Royal and Canal streets around 3:43 p.m.

According to the NOPD, a man was standing on the corner when a person allegedly began shooting at him from an SUV. The man was taken to a local hospital for treatment.

On Monday, March 25, NOPD detectives identified three people, who they believe were inside the car.

NOPD officials said 22-year-old Kevion Thigpen, 26-year-old Zykia Smith and 21-year-old Tacoria Brown were arrested in connection with the investigation.

According to the NOPD, an “arrest warrant has been issued for a fourth suspect, believed to have perpetrated the shooting.”

NOPD officials said 20-year-old Maurice Dotson is wanted on charges of attempted second-degree homicide by drive-by shooting, illegal discharge of a firearm, felon in possession of a firearm and obstruction of justice.

Thigpen, Smith and Brown all face charges of attempted second-degree homicide by drive-by shooting and obstruction of justice.
