Nominations wanted for Senior Illinoisans Hall of Fame 2024

SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (WCIA) — Do you have an older adult in your life who has affected your community in a positive way? The Illinois Department on Aging is accepting nominations for the Senior Illinoisans Hall of Fame.

The Senior Illinoisans Hall of Fame has inducted 137 people aged 65 and up over the last three decades. It honors the accomplishments of older Illinois residents within four categories:

  • Arts, sports, and entertainment

  • Community service

  • Education

  • Labor

Anyone is welcome to submit a nomination, though self-nominations are not allowed. Nominations can be submitted online or postmarked by June 1.

“Being named to the Senior Illinoisans Hall of Fame is a tremendous honor for individuals who have made a positive and lasting impact in their communities,” said IDoA Acting Director Mary Killough. “I encourage anyone who has been inspired by an older adult in their life to submit a nomination soon before the June 1 deadline.”

Nominators are expected to participate in and to help coordinate the award ceremony this fall should their nominee be inducted.
