Rios’s identity was confirmed by the coroner’s office after 17 News spoke with Rios’ family. Loved ones were told by witnesses the driver of the vehicle was a woman.

Angelica Gutierrez, the victim’s cousin, said Rios was looking forward to motherhood.

“We just want justice,” Gutierrez said. “We just want [the driver] behind bars for what she did to my cousin. She took two lives from our family and she’s just out there.”

According to Bakersfield Police, the driver of a dark-colored pick-up truck was traveling northbound in the 300 block of V Street when the truck collided with Rios. The driver allegedly fled the scene. No arrests have been made.
