NNPD giving free steering wheel locks during crime prevention event

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. (WAVY) — The Newport News Police Department announced that they will be giving away free steering wheel locks for registered Hyundai owners.

The department is hosting Vehicle Crime Prevention events on Saturday, April 27 from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Peninsula Korean Baptist Church at 972 Harpersville Road in Newport News.

People can have their vehicle ID numbers (VINs) spray painted and engraved onto their vehicle’s catalytic converters and etched on their automobile’s window glass surface. NNPD will also be giving away free steering wheel locks for registered Hyundai owners to combat recent spikes of thefts nationwide.

Drivers should bring their vehicle registration on the day of the event.
