NMSP: Santa Fe Police involved in shooting

SANTA FE, N.M. (KRQE) – New Mexico State Police are investigating a shooting involving the Santa Fe Police Department on Wednesday. Santa Fe police say around 2:30 p.m., a Santa Fe Police Department Officer shot 37-year-old Jermaine Garcia who Santa Fe police say was threatening people with a knife.

Santa Fe County Sheriff’s Office seeks community’s help in death investigation

Cell phone video showed Garcia walking around angrily with the knife near Harrison and Cerillos Rd. No officers were injured and Garcia was taken to the hospital.

Garcia is charged with aggravated battery, two counts of attempt to commit a felony, five counts of aggravated assault, three charges of aggravated assault upon a peace officer, and criminal damage to property.

The Santa Fe Deputy Chief of Police says the officer involved will be placed on administrative leave. The incident remains under investigation.
