Award-winning actress and producer Nicole Kidman revealed that Season 2 of “Big Little Lies” is in the works.

There’s been some speculation as to whether there would be a second season since the HBO (TWX) series was based on one novel by Liane Moriarty.

“Well, we’re pulling together ‘Big Little Lies 2’,” Kidman said in a recent press briefing.

“That’s a lot of work,” she added. “So we’re in the midst of doing that.”

Kidman spoke with a small group of reporters at the Peninsula Hotel in Shanghai on Friday morning ahead of Alibaba’s 11.11 Global Shopping Festival (aka Singles Day) Countdown Gala where she was an honored guest.

“We would love to have ‘Big Little Lies 2’ in production the beginning of next year, which is what we are moving towards now,” she said. “And fingers crossed it can happen.”

On the show, Kidman plays Celeste Wright, a retired lawyer, and mother of twin boys who is a victim of domestic violence by her husband, Perry.

Yahoo Finance asked Kidman about her career and the role that’s resonated with her the most.

“I mean, right now, it would be Celeste in ‘Big Little Lies,’ in a sense, because of the connection it gave me with audiences,” she said. “I mean, people literally come over to me and hold on to me and talk to me and that’s probably the one. And it’s still vibrating through me in a way because I feel like the rest of her story hasn’t been told.”

Throughout her career, Kidman has starred in dozens of films.

“It comes from passion, you know. I still have a fire in me,” she said. “I still have something inside that keeps me excited and almost more so wanting to explore and being able to produce as well as a woman is — it’s nice having your own power. It gives you some sort of control over your destiny because, you know, a lot of times as a female in this industry you don’t have that. So now to be in position with Reese [Witherspoon] where we can decide what we want to do and it’s up to us that feels kind of good.”

Kidman won two Emmy awards in September for producing and starring in “Big Little Lies.”
