Negotiator testifies on third day of Thomas Kinworthy trial

ST. LOUIS – There was compelling testimony when a St. Louis Police negotiator was put on the stand during day three of the trial of Thomas Kinworthy.

Kinworthy, 47, is facing multiple charges, including first-degree murder, for shooting and killing Officer Tamarris Bohannon, as well as shooting another officer. Testimony continued Wednesday.

St. Louis Police Negotiator Sgt. Brian Hayes testified that the ex-wife of Kinworthy gave no indication that he was having a mental health issue when the incident occurred in August 2020. Members of the SWAT team were also called in to testify.

Defense admitted during opening statements that Kinworthy shot the two officers but maintain the claim that he was in a mental crisis at the time. The prosecution team disagrees.

Officials said that Kinworthy shot two officers and a homeless man, then barged into a couple’s home on Hartford Street, near Tower Grove Park.

Officer Bohannon was 29 years old when he was killed. He had been with the department for three and a half years.
