National Weather Service not coming to survey Houston Co. storm damage

HOUSTON COUNTY, Ala. (WDHN) — The National Weather Service will not visit Houston County to survey damage caused by last week’s storms.

According to the National Weather Service, they will assess the possible tornado remotely using photos provided by the Houston County EMA.

The NWS did not provide a reason for being unable to send a survey team to Houston County.

The bulk of Friday’s storms were centered in Cottonwood. They nearly destroyed a church, downed multiple power lines and trees across the city, and flipped a camper in the front yard of a home.

The town of Cottonwood suffered major destruction earlier this year after an EF-2 tornado touched down.
