National Police Week 2024 in Mesa County

GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (KREX) — Sunday, May 12, 2024, is the first day of National Police Week 2024. The community is invited to join the Mesa County Sheriff’s Office, the Grand Junction Police Department, and all other law enforcement agencies to show appreciation for all of those in law enforcement who help keep our community safe.

Members of the community are encouraged to wear blue ribbons throughout the week to honor local peace officers. The ribbons can be picked up at the front counters of the Grand Junction Police Department and the Mesa County Sheriff’s Office.

Event Schedule

On Monday, the GJPD and MCSO Joint Honor Guard will raise the American flag to half-staff in honor of those who gave their lives in service to our community. The flag will remain at half-staff for the entire week.

On Tuesday, two Coffee with a Cop events from 8:30 a.m. to 10 a.m. at Mountain Air Roasters (126 N. 7th Street) or The Coffee Trader (2566 Patterson Rd Unit A). Also, at 9 a.m. during the Board of County Commissioners meeting, the Joint Honor Guard will present the colors and the commissioners will officially recognize Law Enforcement Appreciation Week. At 5:30 p.m., the public is invited to attend the Grand Junction City Council meeting to hear GJPD’s Police Week proclamation.

On Thursday, law enforcement will gather at the Mesa County Sheriff’s Office at 6 p.m. for the Police Week Memorial Vigil to remember the law enforcement officers who were taken too soon.
