Narrow Gate Horse Ranch fundraiser brings in more than $100K

May 22—Narrow Gate Horse Ranch's annual Derby Ball returned for its third year May 4.

According to a press release from the religious nonprofit, the fundraiser brought in more than $100,000.

Funds will be used to ensure children can receive services from nonprofit without having to worry about paying anything. Narrow Gate Horse Ranch uses equestrian-assisted learning as an outreach program that pairs at-risk youth with mentors.

Angie Sanders, who runs the Homework Club at Garden Square apartments, and two students she mentors were keynote speakers at the event. The students, Ceira Thomas and Keiaudre Cannon, read a poem about the lives of impoverished young people titled "Do You See Me?"

As a new addition to the fundraiser, churches and businesses donated baskets filled with products, which were then bid on by attendees. The organization that donated the basket that received the highest bid received a 13-inch trophy and a team building session at Narrow Gate Horse Ranch.

The returning hat contest had 20 entries for the women's division and six entries for the men's division.
