Nancy Pelosi Defended Dreamers on the House Floor for Eight Hours—in Four-Inch Heels

House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi set records yesterday when she spoke for eight straight hours on the floor of the House of Representatives. The 77-year-old took to the podium at 10:06 a.m. and didn't stop until eight hours and seven minutes later, according to the New York Times. Her purpose? To defend the Dreamers and the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals program, better known as DACA, in the face of a spending bill that does not address the immigration issue. It was the longest continuous speech in the chamber dating back to at least 1909, according to historians. Filibusters aren't allowed in the House of Representatives, but as party leader Pelosi can speak for as long as she pleases—and she used the time to share personal stories of Dreamers.

But what, you ask, could be more impressive than speaking for eight hours straight? Doing it in four-inch heels, that's what. Pelosi held that floor in a pair of stilettos, as you can see below:

Pelosi's feat (and feet) calls to mind Wendy Davis, the Texas state senator who famously filibustered for 11 hours in defense of abortion rights—in pink sneakers. Davis, of course, weighed in on Pelosi: "Among favorite lines of @NancyPelosi today: 'I have no intention of yielding.' Back in TX, 'I will not yield' became a rally cry in 2013. Difference is, sneakers while she was in her characteristic 4” high heels. To that, I would definitely yield. You are a goddess Madame Leader."

Women all over also took to Twitter to praise Pelosi. We know all too well the pain of a high heel.

As if we really needed further proof, yesterday made it insanely clear that Nancy Pelosi is a badass woman of the highest measure. And we hope somebody gave her a killer foot rub last night.
