Naked gunman kills four in Waffle House shooting in, Nashville Tennessee

A nude gunman shot dead four people and injured at least three more in the early hours of Sunday at a restaurant on the outskirts of Nashville, Tennessee, police said.

The Metropolitan Nashville Police Department said in a statement that the shooting occurred at a Waffle House in Antioch, a suburb southeast of Nashville, at 3:25 am.

"A patron wrestled away the gunman's rifle. He was nude and fled on foot. He is a white man with short hair," the statement added.

Police later said they are looking for a 29-year-old, Travis Reinking from the village of Morton, in Illinois, in connection with the shooting.

The force said a man believed to be Reinking was last seen in a wooded area near the Waffle House, wearing black pants and no shirt.

At least one victim has reportedly been taken to Vanderbilt University Medical Center, located in Nashville itself.

Police initially said three people had been killed in the attack and local media are now reporting a fourth has since died.

Local media citing police on the scene reported the gunman was armed with an AR-15 assault rifle. 

The weapon that has been used in a number of recent US mass shootings including the Parkland school and Las Vegas shootings.

David Briley, the mayor of Metropolitan Nashville, expressed his condolences to the victims and their families, saying: "It’s a tragic day for our city anytime people lose their lives at the hands of a gunman.

"My heart goes out to the families [and] friends of every person who was killed or wounded in this morning’s shooting.

"I know all of their lives will be forever changed by this devastating crime."
