RCMP in Behchokǫ̀ said on Monday that police are continuing to search for a missing man in the area.

In a news release issued Monday morning, RCMP say Ralph Beaulieu, 54, was dropped off at his cabin cabin south of Behchokǫ̀ on April 23 with a plan to go out on the land on April 29.

He sent an In Reach message to a friend on April 29, informing them that he had begun his trip, police said.

Beaulieu was expected to be picked up from his cabin on May 8, but was not there when the friend went to meet him. The friend called the police at midnight on May 9.

RCMP said officers hiked to Beaulieu's cabin at 2 a.m. on May 9 and conducted an initial ground search but did not find him.

Police say they received a tip that Beaulieu was in the hospital, but when this tip was followed up on, it was determined that he had not attended the hospital.

The release said that police refocused the search back in the area of the cabin.

"The search for Ralph Beaulieu is on-going with the assistance of CASARA [Cival Air Search and Rescue Association] and Yellowknife Ground Search and Rescue," RCMP spokesperson Matt Halstead said in the news release.

Anyone who has seen Beaulieu or may have picked him up on the highway south of Behchokǫ̀ is asked to contact the Behchokǫ̀ RCMP.
