N. Korea marks birth anniversary of state's founder

STORY: In the footage aired on KRT, thousands of North Korean students were seen dancing next to balloons and a banner marking the "4.15 celebration" and watching fireworks display at Kim Il Sung square.

State media said the celebration event took place on Sunday (April 14) night.

April 15 marks Kim Il Sung's birthday and is also known as the "Day of the Sun", which is the most important holiday of the year in North Korea.

Kim Il Sung led his country from its founding in 1948, through the 1950-53 Korean War, until he died in 1994 and his son Kim Jong Il took over.
