Muscatine Police Detective Britt Jameson self-initiated a response on March 21, 2024, to a report of a man who was actively choking and unable to breathe. Detective Jameson found the victim not breathing and becoming unresponsive, and immediately re-positioned the victim and delivered repeated abdominal thrusts until the food item the victim was choking on was dislodged.

The victim was able to resume breathing and regained full consciousness.

The award was presented by Muscatine Mayor Brad Bark and based upon the recommendation of Muscatine Police Chief Tony Kies. Members of Jameson’s family were present for the award presentation Thursday.
