Murrells Inlet church nears 30 years of annual spring blessing

MURRELLS INLET, S.C. (WBTW) — Belin United Methodist Church on Saturday held its 28th annual community blessing, a beloved tradition that now draws thousands to the seaside event.

“I think people really look forward to it, and make it part of their weekend activities,” said Kathy Smith, a first-time volunteer.

From its inception in the late 1990s with a simple service, the Blessing of the Inlet now sees huge crowds and features vendors of all kinds.

All proceeds go back to the church to support its missionary work and property improvements, like a new playground.

The Blessing of the Inlet is always from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on the first Saturday in May.
