Murder suspect in Lee Highway shooting found in NC, extradited back to Virginia

PULASKI COUNTY, Va. (WFXR) — The Pulaski County Sheriff reports a man has been charged with Second Degree Murder in connection to a fatal incident on Lee Highway in the Dublin area on Tuesday, April 2.

According to the sheriff, deputies responded to a disturbance call from the 4800 block of Lee Highway to find a deceased man identified as 25-year-old Chad O. Pennington of Hiwassee.

During the investigation, the sheriff’s office learned Pennington was allegedly shot multiple times by Daniel Nathen Janack. Following the shooting, Janack allegedly stole Pennington’s vehicle and then fled to North Carolina.

An interstate multi-jurisdictional law enforcement task force collaborated with the investigation and search for Janack.

After a vehicle pursuit, Janack was apprehended in Selma, North Carolina on Wednesday, April 3.

On Wednesday, April 17, Daniel Janack was extradited back to Virginia. He has been charged with the following:

  • Second Degree Murder

  • Use of a Firearm in Commission of a Felony

  • Possession of a Firearm by a Convicted Felon

  • Grand Larceny

  • Conspiracy to Commit Grand Larceny
