(NBC News) — On Friday’s “Dateline,” Dennis Murphy reports on the murder of a Baltimore firefighter.

When a firefighter Jon Hickey is murdered, the investigation unravels a web of secrets, a love triangle and stunning surveillance footage.

In a preview video of the episode, Murphy describes details of the crime.

“He was sound asleep on his couch, the young Baltimore firefighter,” said Murphy. “He never would have heard the figure easing his way up the narrow back alley into the firefighter’s apartment. The victim, hopefully, never heard the gunshot that killed him.”

Murphy also reveals parts of the investigation that followed Hickey’s killing and the evidence from a surveillance camera.

“But something was watching it all,” said Murphy. “The urgent job for Baltimore homicide detectives was to find that man in the picture and to untangle all the relationships they encountered. The wife, the lover, the lies and the alibis.”
