Neighbors saw flames shooting out of the house just after 10p.m. Wednesday. They tell FOX4 this is not the first time this house has caught fire.

“The lights first, then the engine, the noise and stuff, I knew something bad had happened,” neighbor Donna Jones said.

“Crews did a great job,” KCFD Battalion Chief Mike Hopkins said. “They immediately went into offensive interior operations, got the first floor knocked down, moved to the interior of the structure was able to make their way into the second floor and get it under control.”

Daniela Flores lives a couple houses down. Her family feared as the home went up in flames.

“I was scared,” Flores said.

Hopkins said the house is a total loss. Nobody lives in the home that went up in flames.

He said they run between 150 and 220 vacant structure fires a year and the bulk are houses.

“Whether it’s called vacant when we go in them and fight them to check because obviously somebody was in there, that’s how the fire started,” he said.

Hopkins said KCPD’s Bomb and Arson Squad was called to the scene Wednesday night.
The investigation into what caused the fire is ongoing.

The Red Cross has been called for two adults.
