Multiple injured in head-on crash on Copus Road: CHP

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KGET) — Five people were injured after a Bakersfield woman attempted to pass traffic on the opposite lane when she crashed head-on into another vehicle on Copus Road Wednesday morning, according to California Highway Patrol.

The crash happened after a 52-year-old woman driving a Chevy Silverado westbound on Copus Road, west of I-5 when she attempted to pass traffic on the eastbound lane.

The Bakersfield woman was traveling at 80 mph when she misjudged the distance between her and an oncoming Toyota Camry when the two vehicles crashed head-on, CHP officials said.

The Bakersfield woman suffered minor injuries. Two occupants of the Camry suffered major injuries, a third suffered moderate injuries and the fourth person suffered minor injuries.

Officers said alcohol and cellphone use did not appear to be a factor in the crash. All five people were wearing seatbelts at the time of the crash and were transported to Kern Medical for treatment.

The crash remains under investigation.
