Multiple crews contain residential fire threatening nearby homes in Bedford County

BEDFORD COUNTY, Va. (WFXR)– Multiple fire crews responded to a report of a residential fire threatening nearby residences on Thursday, March 14.

Crews from the Huddleston Volunteer Fire Department, Moneta Volunteer Fire Department, Bedford Fire Department, and Bedford County Fire Department were dispatched to Silk Road on a report of a structure fire. Units found a double wide and four outbuildings involved in flame with fire spreading into the woods threatening two neighboring residences.

Fire crews from the Forest Fire Department, Sterwartsville-Chamblissburg Volunteer Fire Departments, and Montvale Volunteer Fire Department were later dispatched to the scene to provide further assistance and manpower.

Crews issued a defense attack, putting crews on multiple hand lines. Firefighters also were assisting against the fire that extended into the woods.

After nearly four hours of working to contain the fire, crews managed to bring the fire under control, stopping the fire from spreading to other residences. There were no injuries reported from the scene.

The Department of Forestry responded to contain the extension into the woods.
