MSU Board of Trustees voting on housing and meal rate increase for the 2024-25 school year

LANSING, Mich. (WLNS) — Michigan State University Board of Trustees will vote Friday on whether or not to increase meal and housing rates by almost 7% (6.89%) for the 2024-25 school year for incoming students.

The plan would raise housing and dining rates to $12,564 for first-year students who select the Silver Unlimited plan for the 2024-25 school year. This is an $810 increase from the 2023-24 school year first-year students who selected the silver unlimited plan of $11, 754.

Second-year students will not see an increase in residence and dining for the upcoming school year.

The board reports a proposed rate recommendation for residence halls such as the 1855 Place and University Village Apartments. Both plan to be increased by 5% for the 2024-25 school year. This increase of 5% was seen in the 2023-24 academic school year.

Some colleges will cost up to $95,000 this fall. Schools say financial aid may numb sticker shock

A live stream of the board meeting begins at 9 a.m. Friday, April 12, and is limited to the first 500 viewers.
