MSHP says Vernon Co. inmate died from fentanyl overdose

VERNON COUNTY, Mo. — A Kansas City man, jailed in Vernon County, is charged with murder for the death of another inmate.

Abdel-Ghani is charged with second degree murder and five counts of delivering a controlled substance.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol said the inmate died from a fentanyl overdose. Court records say four other inmates also took the drugs Abdel-Ghani brought in – and three of them overdosed. They were found unconscious in their cell, but officials say they recovered.

According to court records the autopsy showed the man died from acute fentanyl intoxication.
