Motorist charged in bus crash

Apr. 24—HIGH POINT — A driver was charged after wrecking into a school bus Tuesday afternoon in the northwest part of the city, police said.

The 2013 Hyundai was traveling north on N. Main Street at about 55 mph and was turning right onto Skeet Club Road when it veered into the oncoming lane of travel on Skeet Club and struck a 2018 Thomas Built bus for Guilford County Schools at the intersection, the High Point Police Department said. The Hyundai hooked the cabin portion of the bus and rotated under the bus, causing the front of the car to peel back, police said.

The driver of the Hyundai, whose name was not released, was cited for speeding with failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident, speeding by exceeding stated limit and improper lane change or failure to maintain lane control, police say.

The driver of the Hyundai had possible head trauma and cuts from glass and was taken to an area hospital.

No one on the bus — the driver, one child and one adult passenger — appeared to be seriously injured, police said.
