A 27-year-old motorcyclist was killed in a crash on Highway 401 in Scarborough early Wednesday, provincial police say.

The collision happened around 7 a.m. in the westbound collector lanes near Port Union Road, OPP said in a news release.

According to police, witnesses told investigators the motorcyclist was speeding before he collided into the back of the truck.

The motorcycle rider was taken to hospital, where he was pronounced dead. The driver and passenger inside the truck were uninjured, police said.

The westbound collector lanes were closed at Whites Road for the police investigation but were expected to reopen around noon.

Anyone who may have relevant information or dashcam video for investigators is asked to contact the OPP.
