Motorcyclist airlifted to hospital after falling nearly 100 feet off Blue Ridge Parkway

BOTETOURT COUNTY, Va. (WFXR)– Botetourt County Department of Fire & EMS says a motorcyclist was airlifted to the hospital after going over an embankment on the Blue Ridge Parkway on Saturday, April 27.

According to the fire department, crews were dispatched at 1:00 p.m. to mile marker 101 on the Blue Ridge for a motorcycle crash with a reported patient over the embankment. After the arrival of a deputy, firefighters were told en route to the scene that the patient was nearly 100 feet over the embankment and the incident was updated to a Special Operations Team response and the Carilion Clinic Life Guard was requested.

Crews arrived and found the motorcyclist over the embankment reportedly needing care. The fire department set up a rigging system and rope equipment and personnel were able to safely bring the motorcyclist up.

Medical crews were awaiting the motorcyclist and assisted in evacuating them by helicopter to a local hospital for further treatment.

There are no current updates on the motorcyclist’s status.
