Mother will plead guilty in toddler’s accidental death
LANSING, Mich. (WLNS) — The mother of a Lansing 2-year-old who shot and killed himself with an unsecured handgun in 2023 has agreed to plead guilty to the federal charge of felon in possession of a firearm.
Emma Jane Huver, of Lansing, is the mother of toddler King Muhammad, who suffered the accidental gunshot outside of the Sunoco gas station on Dunkel Road last Oct. 24.
Officials filed the plea agreement Friday in the United States District Court for the Western District of Michigan, Southern Division.
Huver was a three-time felon at the time of the toddler’s death. After his shooting death, she faced six state felony charges in Ingham County, including involuntary manslaughter.
U.S. Attorney Mark Totten later announced the new felony charge of felon in possession of a firearm.

Avis Coward was also charged at the time with felon in possession of a firearm, as well as conspiracy to tamper with evidence and tampering with evidence. Gina Schieberl was charged with tampering with evidence.
A change-of-plea hearing for Huver has been scheduled for this Monday, April 29, in the United States District Court, before U.S. District Judge Robert J. Jonker.
