Mother of homicide victim asks public for help finding suspect

WILLIAMSON COUNTY, Texas (KXAN) — The Williamson County Sheriff’s Office identified the victim of a weekend homicide that happened on Copper Creek Drive, and the victim’s mother is asking the public for help finding more information.

The sheriff’s office said Matthew Torres, 25, was killed in a shooting that happened in an unincorporated area of Austin Friday night. According to WCSO, Torres was shot in his apartment, which is located at 9815 Copper Creek Drive.

WCSO said it is pursuing several leads but asked for the public’s help obtaining more information. The sheriff’s office believes it was an isolated incident with no threat to the public.

Jessica Valdez, the victim’s mother, asked the public for help in finding the person responsible for her son’s death.

In a video provided by WCSO, Valdez described her son as “always smiling” and a “very caring person.”

“He was the kind of man that we needed in this world,” she said. “You took away someone very special. He was only good to everybody.”
