Smith County Fire Marshal Chad Hogue identified two women who died in the fire as 84-year-old Ruby Martinez, and her daughter, 67-year-old Gloria Clark.

Autopsies have been ordered for both women, and the cause of the fire, which was reported to result in a total loss of the home, is under investigation by the Smith County Fire Marshal’s Office.

“We’re just heartbroken, heartbroken,” said Angie Dunwoody, friend of the family.

Dunwoody has known the family since 1985, and got the tragic call Monday morning. She stopped by the home shortly after to leave flowers and a note.

“Ruby was a Christian woman, that was her faith,” Dunwoody said. “And Gloria, her sense of humor, she had an amazing sense of humor. Both of them always thought about others before themselves.”

For now, she is praying for support from the Lindale community.

“We all need to come together, and we are going to be here to support the family and whatever they need,” said Dunwoody.
