The Most Powerful Moments from National Protests Against Kavanaugh
People across the country participated in rallies and walkouts today to show solidarity with Dr. Christine Blasey Ford, who accused Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh of sexually assaulting her when they were teens. Wearing all black, the protesters marched in the rain in Washington, D.C., many with raised fists and passionate posters, and into the Senate office building on Capitol Hill.
Elsewhere around the country, people shared group photos from walkouts with the hashtag #BelieveSurvivors. Those who couldn't participate posted selfies in their all-black outfits and used the same hashtag. Even celebrities and public officials joined in.
Ford, who stated her allegations against Kavanaugh in a letter to Senator Dianne Feinstein earlier this summer and came forward publicly through a Washington Post story on September 16, agreed to testify before the Senate Judiciary Committee on Thursday, the New York Times reports.
Yesterday, a woman named Deborah Ramirez, one of Kavanaugh's former classmates at Yale, came forward with a second allegation of sexual assault against the Supreme Court nominee in The New Yorker. Ramirez claims the attack took place during their college years. (Kavanaugh denies both allegations.)
The senate's reluctance to believe these women's accounts-and the public's skepticism towards sexual assault survivors everywhere-are why demonstrators protested today.

Dear survivors,
It is NOT your fault.
We believe you.
We're here for you.
You're not alone.
No one can tell you "that doesn't count."
You deserve respect.
Your story is your own, and you decide what to do with it -- and when.
You are loved.#BelieveSurvivors #StopKavanaugh pic.twitter.com/JaxaozQQY5- Planned Parenthood Generation Action (@PPGenAction) September 24, 2018
Women are watching.
Closely.
We see the bullying & intimidation.
We see the silencing of our voices.
We all deserve better than this.
And we’ll continue to demand it.#BelieveSurvivors pic.twitter.com/E2QHzzjhJN- Vanita Gupta (@vanitaguptaCR) September 24, 2018

I wore black today & walked out of work to show support of Dr. Ford and other survivors of sexual assault. More support came in waves, but the message was clear: we all agree that the judicial committee needs to handle Dr. Ford and her testimony with respect. #BelieveSurvivors pic.twitter.com/XoaCVEN8Ey
