Most of Pennsylvania at high risk of wildfires

(WHTM) — The Pennsylvania Department of Conservation of Natural Resources is alerting Pennsylvania residents of an elevated risk of wildfires for Thursday, April 25.

According to a map released by the department Thursday morning, 55 Pennsylvania counties, including all of the Midstate are currently at a high risk

Twelve counties, all in the Northwest region of the state are currently at a moderate risk.

The department defines moderate and high risk as the following:

Moderate: “Cautious conditions. Wildfires may be expected. Wildfires will ignite and spread but are usually not difficult to contain. Outdoor burning should be restricted to early morning and late evening while avoiding windy conditions.”

High: “Dangerous conditions. Wildfires ignite easily. Fires spread rapidly and are difficult to control under windy conditions. Outdoor burning is strongly discouraged.”
