Mosaic, a nonprofit helping adults with disabilities

GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (KREX) — The Grand Junction chapter of Colorado’s nonprofit organization Mosaic has been supporting Western Slope residents with intellectual disabilities for 38 years. They offer a range of programs such as a host home provider, family caregiver, day program and behavioral services that provide whole healthcare services to people with intellectual and developmental disabilities.

Brandon Cummings, community relations manager at Mosaic, states that they provide services to 81 clients. Their host home program is a popular choice where a person with an intellectual disability becomes a part of a caregiver’s family. Cummings mentions that they have a couple of clients who have lived in a host home for over 20 years.

The day program is a favorite among clients as they are supervised while they go out into the community doing some pretty amazing things such as fishing in Loma, hiking in a monument, visiting the hot springs in Glenwood Springs and staying at the Hotel Colorado. They learn a lot of life skills, coaching skills and personal skills on these trips.

If you would like to volunteer and bring some happiness to your life, consider becoming a home host or host a day program; if you know someone who could benefit from a program at Mosaic, Cummings says they will be happy to arrange a tour for you.
