More than 2,000 homes, businesses without power in McDuffie Co.

McDUFFIE COUNTY, Ga. (WJBF) – More than 2,000 homes and businesses are without power according to the Georgia Power Outage map.

This comes after after storms swept through the area, damaging the graduation stage for Thomson High School Seniors set up at the Brickyard Football Stadium along Main Street in Thomson and requiring graduation ceremonies to be moved indoors to Thomson High School and the start date postponed to 8:30 P.M.

According to the Georgia Power Outage map, roughly 149 of their customers around Highway 278 and the Thomson Bypass are without power. This is in the area near McDuffie County Sheriff’s Office.

South of there, in the area around Sweetwater Baptist Church, 184 Georgia Power customers are out of power.

334 customers are without power along Jackson Street in the area just South of its intersection Hill Street, where First Baptist Church of Thomson is located.

163 are without power along Central Road South of the Thomson Family YMCA.

Restoration is expected as late as 10:15 p.m. in these areas.

Further North, in the area around the intersection of Mesena Road and Cedar Rock Road, 261 customers are without power. Power is expected to be restored as early as 9 p.m. in this area.

Jefferson Energy Cooperative has more than 400 without power along Wrens Highway in the area south of Thomson going toward Wrens without power, and 800 customers without power along County Line Road in Eastern McDuffie without power.

There are additional isolated outages across Thomson and McDuffie County, including two outages in the Boneville and Boneville Road area.

Additionally, more than 250 Georgia Power customers are awaiting the restoration of power along Highway 221 North of Harlem High School going toward Appling. The outage area crosses I-20 and includes the Amazon distribution center and industrial park off of Appling Harlem Road.
