More than 160 complaints made about house where Griffin was found since 2007

BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) — The address where 12-year-old Jaylen Griffin’s body was found has been the subject of numerous complaints over the years.

His body wasn’t the first to be found there, either.

911 logs revealed the troubled past at 107 Sheffield Avenue in South Buffalo.

More than 160 complaints have been made to police since 2007. Those include domestic violence, fire and mental health calls, and the discovery of bodies.

According to Buffalo police records obtained by News 4, a welfare check in June 2020 turned up a body at the multi-unit house. Then, in September 2022, a call resulted in an arrest. We’ve requested more information on if a body was actually discovered from this call.

Nearly a year later in August 2023, a body was found in the yard. Most recently, on April 12, the nearly four-year search for 12-year-old Jaylen Griffin came to an end when he was found dead in the attic of 107 Sheffield Avenue.

Neighbors, who wouldn’t go on camera, tell News 4 they’ve seen several different tenants come and go from the property over the years. In fact, one neighbor has an active lawsuit against the owner of the property, a tenant there and Spectrum Health and Human Services alleging negligence which led to property damage.

The suit alleges the tenant was placed in the apartment through Spectrum Health and Human Services.

A spokesperson for Spectrum tells us they cannot comment on pending litigation, but are cooperating with authorities investigating 107 Sheffield. We also reached out to the New York State Department of Corrections and Community Supervision to see if this South Buffalo home is used as a halfway house.

A spokesperson tells us they do not have a housing contract with the landlord. However, they believe parolees have lived at the house in the past.

As for the landlord, Sunrise West LLC, little is known about the company registered to a Hamburg post office box. News 4 has reached out and is waiting to hear back.
